This inaugural event brings internationally renowned practitioners, researchers, and thought-leaders to campus for lectures, panel discussions, networking, and sharing. This symposium honors Professor Emeritus John Reynolds’ decades of contributions to sustainable design and energy policy.
Denis Hayes is President of the Bullitt Foundation in Seattle, where he leads its effort to mold the Pacific Northwest into a global model of sustainability. Director of the federal Solar Energy Research Institute under President Carter, Hayes is perhaps still best known as the national coordinator of the first Earth Day when he was 25. Time Magazine selected Hayes as one of its “Heroes of the Planet”. He has been profiled as “Newsmaker of the week” by ABCNews and as “Today’s Person in the News” by the New York Times. Look Magazine cited him as one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th Century. A prolific author, Hayes’s most recent book is COWED: The Hidden Impact of 93 Million Cows on America’s Health, Economy, Politics, Culture, and Environment (WW Norton, 2015).
