Department of Architecture Lecture Series: Jun Sato, Jun Sato Structural Engineering

Guidelines for Including Structural Factors in Developing Morphogenesis Operations in Architecture

Structural engineer Jun Sato is an Associate Professor in the Department of Socio-Cultural Environmental Studies in the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences at the University of Tokyo. His unique uses of material in complex geometries and his collaborations with students and architects have enriched projects such as Extreme Nature and Balloon with architect Junya Ishigami for the 2008 and 2010 Venice Biennales, the Iz House (with architect Sou Fujimoto, and the Kawatana Onsen Community Centre, Prostho Museum Research Center, and Sunny Hills with architecture Kengo Kuma. In this talk, co-sponsored by the University of Oregon Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, Professor Sato will share his work in the context of his digital form-finding processes.
