M-Pesa is a mobile phone based money transfer system in Kenya which grew at a blistering pace following its inception in 2007. Dr. Isaac Mbiti, Assistant Professor of Economics at Southern Methodist University, examines how M-Pesa is used, its economic impacts, and the increase in cell phone usage across Africa in recent times.
