Emily Vance, UO Historic Preservation Program graduate student, has done extensive research on Lee Nelson and will explain Nelson’s background and ties to the University of Oregon, along with his influence in nurturing and shaping the historic preservation movement in the U.S. and elsewhere. Nelson was a pioneering historic preservationist involved in the restoration of Independence Hall in Philadelphia as well as preservation projects in Russia and Canada. His papers are in the UO Libraries Special Collections and University Archives, and much of Vance’s research is based on Nelson’s papers.
