John Wilkin, the University of Michigan’s associate librarian for publishing and technology, describes some of the newer directions for HathiTrust and explores the power of collective action in libraries.

Wilkin is well known in research university circles and is often quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

HathiTrust is a corporate repository project launched in 2008 by a partnership of 13 university libraries in the United States. About 10,500,000 content items – including about 5,530,000 book titles and about 270,000 serial titles – had been digitized as of September 2012, through the efforts of more than 60 partnering institutions.
