In 1939 the “Tall Firs” represented the University of Oregon at the inaugural NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. So named for the towering height of their starting line-up, the “Tall Firs” coached by Howard Hobson took out the Oklahoma team in the Semi-Finals 55-37 and won over Ohio State in the final game 46-33.
