2011 Richard W. and Laurie Johnston Lecture – Jonathan Gold

The annual Richard W. and Laurie Johnston Lecture welcomes Jonathan Gold, food critic for the LA Weekly. Gold — “the high-low priest of the L.A. food scene,” according to a 2009 New Yorker profile — is the first and only food writer ever to win a Pulitzer Prize.

A former restaurant critic for the L.A. Times and the late Gourmet magazine, Gold has been the restaurant critic for the LA Weekly since 1984, and is the author of “Counter Intelligence: Where to Eat in the Real Los Angeles.” Gold, who has written about music for Blender, Spin, Rolling Stone and Details, was undoubtedly the first restaurant critic to have been in possession of Dr. Dre’s pager number.
