Mike Andrews: “Weird Wars and Other Battles”
Mike Andrews is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Fiber and Material Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is the Executive and Creative Director at the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency. Andrews received a BFA from SAIC and MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Fueled by dynamic relationships between bright and dull colors, hard and soft materials and a range of scale, his sculptures and tapestries pointedly occupy the gallery. His work is informed by the grandeur of historical tapestries, non-representational abstract painting, and the delirium of home craft. His tapestries simultaneously function as both object and image.
