Eclectic Design – A presentation of work and how industrial designer Hallgeir Homstvedt came to work in the field of furniture design.
The lecture will focus on the breadth of work and how a being a multi-disciplinary designer is a natural part of a small studio where varied projects and processes are the norm. Work for the sporting brand Norrøna includes custom design of furniture, packaging, and over 10 brand-stores across Europe. In another project, a competition sparked the design of the Lui chair, responding to the architecture of the prestigious museum building, University of Bergen, Norway.
Hallgeir Homstvedt set up his own design studio in 2009, focusing on furniture, interior design, and product design. As a part of establishing an independent Studio, Hallgeir exhibited his work in London, Tokyo, Oslo, New York & Milan. Among his clients are renowned Norwegian and international furniture manufacturers like Lexon, Muuto, Menu, L.K.Hjelle, Hem and Established & Sons.
Homstvedt has broad experience working with interior and product design and has designed more that 10 brands stores across Europe for the sporting brand Norrøna.
Homstvedt completed his BA of Industrial Design with Honours from Newcastle University in Australia. After completing his degree in 2006, Homstvedt returned to Oslo to work for the much celebrated design studio Norway Says.
Homstvedt has received multiple awards for his work with furniture, including:
2013 Elle decorations Norway – best chair
2014 Scheiblers Design Award – designer of the year
2015 BoBedre – accessory of the year
2014 winner of a national design competition with the Lui – chair. Designed for the prestigious new museum building at the University of Bergen.
