Community Conversation: “Racial Profiling”

Moderator: Dr. Margie Paris, Associate Professor and Dean of the University of Oregon School of Law, moderated the panel. Margie practiced criminal law for six years in Chicago.

The panel discussion offered local and global perspectives of racial profiling. Panelists address local cases such as the September 2004 detention, questioning and search of Cortez Jordan, as well as the Eugene Police Department collection and analysis of racial profiling data from police-initiated traffic stops.

Community Conversations is an academic program that is one of the Living Learning Initiatives of University Housing in partnership with the Clark Honors College, the Oregon Humanities Center, and Undergraduate Studies. The goal of Community Conversations is to stimulate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, contrarian debate, and articulate discourse among the 3,300+ residential students at the University of Oregon.
